Patient participation Group (PPG)

Our Patient Participation Group (PPG) was set up in Febuary 2012, we invited patients from all age, sex and ethnicity groups after a discussion in our clinical meeting on the 18/1/2012 , we also tryed to encourage patients to join our group by putting notices up in our waiting room, patient leaflets, prescriptions and on our surgery website.

The aims of the PPG are:-

  • To Provide the Doctors with strategic advice about the healthcare needs of our local community.
  • Assist with Health Promotion and educate about managing their own health.
  • Ensure that all patients are kept fully aware of the effect on the surgery of NHS changes.
  • Help to promote events for patients.
  • Fundraising for the Surgery.
  • Give opinions on services offered by the Surgery to improve exisiting services and suggest new ones.
  • Improve communication between the practice and it's patients by contributions to the website and Newsletter.
  • Improve the practice by looking at the premises itself.
  • Advise us about opening hours, telephone access issues.

We are currently holding our PPG group meeting every six months and the last one was help on the 14th June. The minutes are due to be uploaded imminently. Please see the link at the bottom of the page to see the recent minutes.

During 2014-2015 the Group has became a virtual group and we kept in contact by email only.

1) Phone Access.

  • Second line diverted for patients access
  • Bypass line now available to free up use of surgery lines

2) More awareness of Emis Access (booking appointments online and requesting prescriptions online)

  • Option to register added to the registration form
  • New Brighter Posters in waiting area.

3) Surgery freshened up, new flooring making the surgery feel more inviting.

4) Extended Hours - Saturday mornings and late evenings now available

Other items the PPG have been involved with this year, are helping with Friends & Family that came into place from the 1st December 2014, they group decided that the paper Audit would be most appropriate for our surgey after we failed to get any patients reviews from www.iwantgreatcare.com, we have also discussed our plans for the new Craven Road Site and it was agreed a mail merge would be needed closer to completion.

CRAVEN ROAD SITE UPDATE

Our patients may be aware since the publication of an article in the Reading Chronicle last week, that the hospital has changed its mind with regards to selling the site at 17 Craven Rd, which this surgery together with other local surgeries had very much hoped could be used to see the development of a new purpose built Primary Care Medical Centre, a major strategic objective for our Clinical Commissioning Group to secure better GP services for local Reading patients .

NHS England is working with the GPs and CCG to try and persuade the hospital to reconsider its decision. Local patient groups and Reading Borough Councillors are also aware and over the previous 3 years had whole heartedly supported the project.

The withdrawl comes days after planning consent had been secured.

We would ask patients to write to the CEO of the RBH requesting this decision be reconsidered.

There is a lot of media interest, as in excess of £100,000 of public money has already been invested in this project.

If you have any queries/comments, please contact us at This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.

Thank you for your support in what is a vital cause to secure sustainable GP services in your area.
